Apple today unveiled the MacBook Neo, its most affordable laptop ever, marking a significant expansion into the entry-level market with a starting price of just $599.
Announced on March 4, 2026, the MacBook Neo delivers the core Mac experience in a compact, colorful package powered by Apple silicon. It features a durable aluminum enclosure available in four vibrant colors: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. The device boasts a stunning 13-inch Liquid Retina display with high resolution (2408 × 1506), 500 nits brightness, and support for 1 billion colors.
At its core is the A18 Pro chip — the same powerful processor found in recent iPhone Pro models — equipped with a 6-core CPU, 5-core or 6-core GPU (depending on configuration details), hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and a robust Neural Engine optimized for on-device AI tasks. Apple states that the MacBook Neo handles everyday activities such as web browsing, document creation, streaming, photo editing, and AI-enhanced workflows with exceptional efficiency. It is up to 50% faster in common tasks like browsing and up to 3x faster in on-device AI workloads compared to leading PCs equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 processors.
The laptop provides up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, enabling all-day use without frequent recharging. Additional highlights include a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with dual microphones for clear video calls, dual side-firing speakers supporting Spatial Audio and immersive sound, Apple’s acclaimed Magic Keyboard for precise typing, and a large Multi-Touch trackpad with gesture support.
Running macOS Tahoe, the MacBook Neo offers seamless integration with iPhone, full access to Apple Intelligence features, and compatibility with a wide range of apps. The base configuration includes 8GB of unified memory and 256GB SSD storage, while a step-up option provides 512GB storage and adds Touch ID for $699. Connectivity features two USB-C ports (with varying speeds), a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6.0. The device weighs approximately 2.7 pounds, emphasizing portability.
Priced at $599 (U.S.), with education pricing available at $499 for students and educators, the MacBook Neo positions Apple to compete more directly with budget Windows laptops and Chromebooks while maintaining premium build quality and ecosystem benefits. Pre-orders begin immediately, with availability starting March 11, 2026.
Apple describes the MacBook Neo as bringing “the magic of the Mac” to a broader audience, combining performance, design, and value in an unprecedented way for the company’s laptop lineup.
