Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly completed Gwadar International Airport on Monday, highlighting it as a testament to the commitment of Chinese leadership towards the advancement of Pakistan’s underdeveloped regions and economic agenda.

During a virtual ceremony, PM Shehbaz emphasized that this historic accomplishment stems from the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and China.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the completion of the airport would significantly transform the economy of Gwadar and Pakistan as a whole. He noted that both countries signed and exchanged memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in various sectors, including industry, commerce, and agriculture, which are expected to evolve into agreements soon.

“I thank you for your visit to Pakistan out of your busy schedule, reflecting your commitment to promoting friendship between our countries,” PM Shehbaz stated, expressing gratitude to President Xi Jinping and PM Li Qiang for their support in completing the airport.

He recognized the joint efforts of Chinese and Pakistani engineers and workers in making the airport a world-class facility, calling it “another feather in CPEC’s cap.” He assured PM Li of Pakistan’s commitment to closely work on the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for the peace and security of both nations.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang congratulated Pakistan on this significant achievement, emphasizing that the airport is a crucial step toward realizing the vision of regional connectivity. He stated that the completion of the airport would enhance shipping and port activities, further promoting regional integration.

PM Li reiterated China’s commitment to work hand-in-hand with Pakistan to accelerate mutual economic development and highlighted the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations, which has stood resilient amidst global changes.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Chinese delegation, federal ministers, military leadership, and senior officials.
