Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the Indus Motor Company (IMC) manufacturing facility at Port Qasim Authority, underscoring his government’s dedication to advancing hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) production in Pakistan.

During his visit, Chief Minister Shah toured IMC’s cutting-edge plant and was briefed on the latest production techniques, including the renowned Toyota Production System.

IMC, a pivotal player in Pakistan’s automotive sector, has championed the “Make in Pakistan” initiative, focusing on localization and introducing eco-friendly, fuel-efficient vehicles. Recently, the company launched the 4th generation Corolla Cross, Pakistan’s first locally manufactured HEV, notable for its high local content in the SUV category.

The Chief Minister also learned about IMC’s recent export successes, including the shipment of raw materials to Egypt and the export of vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner, Hilux, and Corolla Cross to Oceanian markets. These achievements highlight IMC’s role in enhancing Pakistan’s global automotive presence.

Commending IMC’s efforts, Chief Minister Shah remarked, “Indus Motor has set a high standard in the automotive industry through its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Toyota’s investment in this advanced facility and its focus on human capital reflect a strong commitment to quality and safety.” He emphasized the Sindh Government’s support for initiatives that foster economic growth and environmental responsibility.

IMC CEO Ali Asghar Jamali welcomed the Chief Minister and highlighted the need for stable policies to sustain industry growth. “We are honoured by Chief Minister Shah’s visit, which boosts morale and reinforces governmental support for industrial development. We are also expanding our reach by exporting skilled engineering talent to Japan, positioning Pakistan as a significant player in the global automotive industry.”

Jamali urged continued governmental backing for consistent long-term policies to encourage investment and counter the rise in illegal used car imports, which have increased in FY23-24.

Chief Minister Shah reiterated the Sindh Government’s commitment to bolstering the automotive sector with supportive policies. He also promised to advance small and medium vendor industries to produce auto parts currently imported, aiming to boost localization and create employment opportunities in the province.
