A delegation from the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, convened with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar today as part of their pre-election engagements ahead of Pakistan’s general elections on February 8, 2024.
Caretaker Prime Minister Kakar extended a warm welcome to the COG delegation, expressing Pakistan’s commitment to upholding its obligations as a Commonwealth member by inviting independent international observers to oversee the electoral process. Despite facing various challenges, Kakar assured the delegation that comprehensive measures had been implemented to ensure peaceful and orderly elections nationwide on polling day.
Highlighting the caretaker government’s efforts in maintaining stability and creating a conducive environment for the elections, Kakar emphasized that it was now the responsibility of the Pakistani populace to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Mr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan conveyed gratitude to the caretaker Prime Minister and extended well wishes from Commonwealth Secretary-General Ms. Patricia Scotland.
