ECP Set to Challenge Peshawar High Court’s Stay Order on PTI Intra-Party Elections Verdict

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is poised to contest the stay order issued by the Peshawar High Court in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party elections case.

On December 22, the Election Commission revoked the electoral symbol ‘bat’ from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following a decision on a petition filed by a former founding member Akbar S Babar. The petition challenged the intra-party elections, asserting they were not in compliance with regulations.

The decision to challenge the stay order comes after a consultatory meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to review the Peshawar High Court’s verdict, which reinstated the ‘bat’ symbol for PTI.

The Election Commission intends to approach the divisional bench of the Peshawar High Court to seek the dismissal of the stay order related to the PTI intra-party elections verdict.
