The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take action against several private news channels for breaching the code of conduct by airing an interview with a politician on Thursday.

According to an ECP spokesperson, channels including “Dawn News,” “ARY News,” “Geo News,” and “GNN” violated Section 182 of the Elections Act 2017 and the Commission’s Code of Conduct for National Media by broadcasting a live interview with a politician on Thursday afternoon.

Expressing concerns over the breach, the ECP instructed PEMRA to enforce sanctions against the channels involved, including suspending their broadcasts and initiating proceedings under Section 10 of the Elections Act, 2017.
