England set to face India in T20 World Cup semi-final without fear

England’s T20 World Cup journey to the semi-finals has reached a crucial stage, and all-rounder Sam Curran has injected confidence into his teammates. Speaking on Tuesday, he emphasized that England is prepared to silence a boisterous home crowd, particularly at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Wankhede, known for its raucous atmosphere, will host the semi-final against India on Thursday with a significant home advantage expected from 35,000 Indian fans. Curran’s assertion is grounded in his experience playing in the IPL alongside teammates like Will Jacks of the Mumbai Indians franchise.

“I’ve played many matches here in the IPL and know what to expect,” Curran stated. “India are undoubtedly one of the best teams we face, but they can be dealt with if we play to our strengths.”

England’s earlier encounters at Wankhede have not been without drama; they narrowly won a final-ball thriller against Nepal, with Curran securing victory in the last over by taking five wickets for just five runs. His ability to perform consistently has positioned him as a key player, scoring 149 runs so far, including a match-winning performance of 43 not out.

Curran’s positive outlook extends beyond his personal achievements; he believes that judging their own performances can be gauged by the volume and enthusiasm of fans. “If the crowd is silent, we are likely to perform well,” he said with optimism.

It marks the third consecutive T20 World Cup where England has reached the semi-finals against India. In 2022, they defeated their Indian opponents by a mere margin in Adelaide, eventually claiming the title. Two years ago, India secured victory in Guyana before winning again in Barbados.

England will now face South Africa in their first semi-final on Wednesday, while New Zealand awaits them for the final to be played later that week in Ahmedabad.

Curran summed up his team’s prospects: “It’s what we’ve been working towards. Let’s hope we can continue this success.”
