Zindagi and the creators of Barzakh have announced that the series, starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, will be removed from YouTube in Pakistan due to recent public reactions regarding its LGBTQ themes. The show will be taken down from Pakistani YouTube after August 9, 2024.
In an Instagram post, Zindagi expressed gratitude to its global audience for their support, stating, “We, at Zindagi and Team Barzakh, extend our heartfelt gratitude to our global audience for their unwavering support for Barzakh — a show that was created to bring people together everywhere. But in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have decided to voluntarily withdraw Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024. This decision reflects our dedication to honouring our audiences without causing alienation. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support. Thank You.”
Produced by Waqas Hassan and Shailja Kejriwal and directed by Asim Abbasi, Barzakh has faced controversy over its portrayal of LGBTQ themes, sparking debate on social media. The final episode will air tonight at 8 pm.
