The final auction for the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Corporation is set for October 30.
Parliamentary Secretary for Communication, Gul Asghar Khan, confirmed the date during a session of the National Assembly while responding to a query raised by Sharmila Faruqui of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Khan explained that the PIA privatisation is part of an extensive and structured process. “The privatisation process began in February 2024 and is expected to conclude with the final auction on October 30,” he stated.
He further elaborated that the procedure involves multiple institutions, including the Privatisation Commission Board, which is chaired by the Minister. The Secretary of the Privatisation Commission is acting as its secretary, ensuring smooth coordination.

The privatisation of PIA was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation, Khan noted. He added that PIA’s assets have been restructured, with operational assets separated from others. The final auction will take place under PIA Corporation, marking the conclusion of this process.
As the government moves forward, new conditions from potential buyers have emerged, particularly concerning the future of PIA’s employees.
