In its Year in Search 2024 report, Google unveiled an insightful look into Pakistan’s digital landscape, revealing the nation’s growing engagement with sports, entertainment, food, and technology. Cricket, as expected, dominated the search trends, with the ICC T20 World Cup capturing the public’s attention. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 schedule and matchups, along with searches for cricket stars like Shoaib Malik and Sajid Khan, further underscored the country’s deep passion for the sport. Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem also made waves, drawing widespread interest after clinching Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in nearly 30 years.
The nation’s fascination with notable figures extended beyond the cricket field, with increased searches for media personalities such as Sana Javed and Zoya Nasir, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and social media influencers like Hareem Shah and Minahil Malik.
Entertainment, especially Pakistani dramas, remained a major draw for online users, with popular shows like Ishq Murshid and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum generating significant interest. Bollywood blockbusters like Animal, Dunki, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Stree 2 also featured prominently, alongside buzz surrounding the reality show Bigg Boss and the much-anticipated Mirzapur Season 3.
Food-related searches also flourished, with Pakistanis seeking recipes for everything from banana bread and creamy pasta to local delicacies like malpura and tawa kaleji. Quick bites such as garlic bread and egg noodles, as well as seasonal drinks like peach iced tea, reflected the nation’s varied culinary tastes.
On the tech front, the surge in interest for AI tools, highlighted by searches for Gemini and Remaker AI, indicated Pakistan’s growing fascination with artificial intelligence. Mobile technology also captured attention, with searches for the latest smartphones from Infinix, Redmi, Vivo, and Apple. How-to searches also revealed a practical streak, from questions about polling stations in the election year to tips on preserving flowers and teaching children how to share.
Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan, commented, “This year’s Year in Search reveals a Pakistan that is both deeply rooted in its traditions and eagerly embracing the possibilities of the digital age. From the cricket pitch to the kitchen, from the silver screen to the search bar, Pakistanis are using Google to explore their passions, connect with their culture, and shape their future.” Google’s Year in Search 2024 offers a fascinating view of how Pakistan is navigating the intersection of tradition and modernity, with digital engagement continuing to shape how the country connects with the world.
