Hegseth Calls Tuesday’s Strikes Against Iran Most Intense Yet, Trump Decides End

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared Tuesday as the “most intense day” of strikes against Iran so far, with President Trump ultimately determining the objectives’ end stage. At a news briefing, Hegseth emphasized it would be the most fighters and bombers used inside Iranian territory since conflict began.

Chairman Dan Caine of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff highlighted that more than 5,000 targets have been struck since war erupted. The military’s objectives include eradicating missiles and drone capabilities; targeting Iran’s navy and industrial base. Additionally, ongoing strikes by both the U.S. and Israel on Iran have resulted in a 90% reduction in missile launches against Israeli allies.

Today marked yet another escalation as Iranian forces launched attacks into Gulf Arab countries, while Israeli strikes hit southern and eastern Lebanon, heightening concerns of entanglement. Despite inconsistent timelines from Tehran, Hegseth underscored that “this is not 2003,” referring to the Iraq War under previous administrations. Instead, this conflict marks a distinct phase.

“We understand what we’re fighting for,” Hegseth declared at the briefing. “For four decades, these barbaric savages have murdered our soldiers and allies through their terrorist proxies.” He noted Iran is in chaos with Khamenei’s second son named as new Supreme Leader despite Trump disapproving of his selection.

Seven American service members had died in the conflict, for which the Joint Chiefs expressed eternal gratitude. Hegseth also remarked on Trump’s stance, stating he believed the war to be “very complete,” but adding that “we’re fightin’ to win” with defined terms.

This message was reinforced by a Defense Department social media post captioned “We Have Only Just Begun to Fight.” In a separate interview with 60 Minutes, Hegseth indicated that unconditional surrender means continuing the struggle until victory. Trump’s potential move over the Strait of Hormuz has led to oil price volatility, rising above $119 a barrel amidst Middle East uncertainties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed his country’s intent to continue missile attacks on Israel as long as necessary. With these dynamics in play, it remains uncertain if Iran will accept any ceremonial surrender and what the final outcome of this conflict will look like.
