Residents of Karachi are struggling with intense heat coupled with increased load shedding and complete power outages.
The city’s electricity demand exceeds 3,600 megawatts (MW), while the primary supplier, K-Electric, is only able to provide 2,900 MW, resulting in a 700 MW shortfall.
Widespread power outages have hit densely populated areas, including New Karachi Town, North Karachi Township, North Nazimabad Town, and Surjani Town. Late-night blackouts have also plagued the neighborhoods of Liaquatabad, Azizabad, and Hussainabad. Other areas such as Baldia Town, Orangi Town, and Lyari have been without power for several hours.
