Lainey Wilson Shares Career Advice from Keith Urban

Senior reporter Lainey Wilson shared candid insights into the mentorship relationship with Keith Urban during a recent appearance on No Filter with Kate Langbroek, sparking a conversation about career advice and work-life balance.

During the March 1 episode, Lainey revealed that she was once overwhelmed by her demanding schedule when she encountered Urban. She explained, “I was ranting about my exhaustion amidst an exhausting year of touring—over one hundred shows—and I blurted out to him, ‘I’m tired,’ only for Urban to interject with a witty yet blunt response, ‘No whining on the yacht.’”

Lainey continued, “Urban’s advice resonated deeply. He emphasized that maintaining balance is more important than striving constantly to achieve it. In his view, understanding what works best for an individual and fostering work-life balance are key to long-term success.”

The singer-songwriter added, “He advised me not to sacrifice my personal life just to stay ahead in the industry. Once you lose that equilibrium, it’s difficult to restore. His words have stuck with me.”

Lainey’s revelation was complemented by Urban’s own enthusiasm for her work in a separate interview last year with Inked Magazine. “I love Lainey’s voice; hearing her sing is unmistakable,” Urban stated. “She can be herself anywhere, and that’s why people adore her.”

Both Urban and Wilson have been vocal about the value of balance in their respective careers. Lainey highlighted Urban’s wisdom during their interaction, illustrating how mentorship from industry veterans like Urban can profoundly influence young artists seeking to navigate a demanding career path.
