Lionsgate Reveals First Look at Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’

Lionsgate has unveiled its first behind-the-scenes look at Michael, offering fans an early glimpse into what’s set to be one of the year’s most anticipated music biopics. As the theatrical release is expected in the coming months, the studio is ramping up marketing efforts with a fresh video that features Jaafar Jackson, who has been cast as his uncle, Michael Jackson.

In the exclusive clip released today, fans get an intimate look at Jaafar’s preparation for his role, including rehearsal sequences showcasing dance moves that defined Michael Jackson’s global career. The preview emphasizes the production’s focus on authenticity and how it intends to capture the artistry that made Michael Jackson a cultural icon in music history.

The video is expected to generate significant buzz among fans as the theatrical release nears. Additional photography commenced in June 2025 after filming was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Michael is set for a theatrical release on April 24, 2026, with Lionsgate distributing domestically and Universal Pictures handling international releases. The film’s production highlights include partnerships with Kino Films for Japanese distribution and Sony Music no longer being involved in its marketing.
