Mayor Murtaza Wahab has revealed ongoing efforts to establish the Karachi Metropolitan Museum at the historic Denso Hall building. He noted that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) revenues were 1.2 billion in the last year of former Mayor Waseem Akhtar, and with various reforms in the last five months until November 30, KMC has earned one billion rupees.
Mayor Wahab emphasized the commitment to utilizing every penny of the KMC for the benefit of the people. He expressed concern about historic buildings being neglected in the “politics of prejudice” and pledged to focus on preserving the city’s historic heritage.
Highlighting the absence of museums under local governments in Pakistan, Mayor Wahab announced the establishment of the Karachi Metropolitan Museum at the Denso Hall building. He mentioned that the museum’s opening to the public is scheduled for March 23, 2024.
The mayor urged citizens to be conscious and aware, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in preserving the city’s cultural and historic landmarks. Wahab also expressed dismay over instances of vandalism, including spitting on a picture of a child and political banners and wall chalking at Johar flyover and underpass.
