A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight steward, Faisal Majeed, has been apprehended for attempting to smuggle expensive cellphones from Canada. Upon arriving at Islamabad airport on flight PK-782, Majeed was caught by customs officials with 16 high-end phones concealed around his body.
Authorities discovered the phones during a routine check, prompting immediate action. Majeed has since received a show-cause notice, giving him three days to provide an explanation for his actions. The notice criticized him for tarnishing the reputation of the national airline, warning that failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in his termination.
Earlier, PIA confirmed that another crew member, Mohsin Raza, has gone missing in Canada. Raza, a resident of Islamabad, failed to report for duty on a scheduled flight from Karachi. Concerns arose when he did not return to his hotel, with his last known location being Toronto, where he had been part of the crew for an earlier flight.
This disappearance is the latest in a troubling pattern, as more than a dozen PIA staff members have reportedly vanished in Toronto over the past year.
