Pakistan is keen to enhance cooperation with Russia in various sectors, including trade, energy, connectivity, and security, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Islamabad.
According to a statement from the PM’s office, the prime minister emphasized that deepening relations with Russia is a top priority in Pakistan’s foreign policy. Welcoming the Russian delegation, Sharif expressed anticipation of hosting Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Islamabad next month.
Reflecting on his “very fruitful” discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July, Sharif extended his gratitude for the high-level delegation’s visit aimed at exploring opportunities for expanded bilateral cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk expressed appreciation for the warm reception, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to fostering deeper ties with Pakistan. He described the relationship between the two countries as both constructive and mutually advantageous. Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication to strengthen their partnership further.
During the meeting, the prime minister also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries. The agreement reflects their shared desire to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, information technology, agriculture, science, and education.
