The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has been granted accreditation by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), affirming its unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards of medical education within Pakistan. This distinguished recognition, awarded for a duration of 10 years, marks a significant milestone for PM&DC and the nation’s medical education sector.
With PM&DC now holding WFME accreditation, all Pakistani students gain eligibility to apply for ECFMG and USMLE exams. This milestone enables Pakistan’s medical graduates to pursue postgraduate training and professional practice in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where WFME recognition is mandatory.
WFME, officially associated with the World Health Organization (WHO), plays a pivotal role in representing medical education and training worldwide. Its recognition process ensures that accreditation of medical schools globally adheres to internationally accepted and rigorous standards. The evaluation conducted by WFME emphasizes compliance with defined criteria.
The accreditation from WFME signifies PM&DC’s medical education programs meet international benchmarks for quality and excellence. It underscores the council’s commitment to providing a robust and globally competitive medical education framework for aspiring healthcare professionals in Pakistan. President Rizwan Taj and the PM&DC team spearheaded the rigorous WFME recognition process, achieving this historic milestone.
Expressing his delight, PM&DC President Prof Dr Rizwan Taj stated, “We are thrilled to receive recognition from WFME, a testament to our ongoing efforts to elevate medical education standards in the country. This achievement paves the way for collaboration and ensures our medical graduates are equipped to meet global healthcare standards.”
Dr. Rizwan emphasized PM&DC’s need for direction and sustained collaboration with global entities like WFME to enhance medical education standards in Pakistan. He congratulated the nation on this landmark achievement, highlighting that WFME’s recognition signifies Pakistan’s medical education adheres to global standards, empowering students to pursue careers worldwide.
He extended gratitude to all stakeholders involved, including government officials, medical colleges, and hospitals, for their relentless efforts in achieving this accreditation. Moving forward, PM&DC remains committed to working closely with international partners to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with global best practices in medical education.
