Pakistan: Murad Saeed Resigns from Senate Amid Political Turmoil
The recent tumultuous events in Pakistan’s Parliament took another sharp turn with PTI leader Murad Saeed’s decision to resign his Senate seat. A night after sending his resignation letter to the party chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Saeed urged all colleagues and members of his party to immediately relinquish their legislative positions.
In a post on PTI’s official X account and in an accompanying message shared on the party’s platform, Saeed emphasized that “this parliament has become complicit in every attempt to subvert the people’s mandate. Despite swearing allegiance to the constitution, its authority has been perverted.”
Saeed went on to say lawmakers who demand basic rights for “the elected and real prime minister” are themselves being detained as protesters, leading him to announce his resignation. This comes after Saeed was initially elected senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in July 2025 but could not take the oath due to his whereabouts.
The PTI leader’s decision underscores escalating political tensions within the country’s legislative bodies. His departure adds a new dimension to the ongoing parliamentary crisis, prompting immediate calls for resignations across party lines.
