The Punjab government has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at empowering livestock farmers and boosting the agricultural sector in the province. Among these initiatives are the introduction of the first-ever Punjab Livestock Card and a dedicated “Farmer Guidance App.”
Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, chaired a meeting on Saturday where these projects received approval. The Punjab Livestock Card scheme will provide interest-free loans of up to Rs. 2.5 lakh for cattle feed, easing the financial burden on farmers managing their livestock. Additionally, a scheme is being developed to specifically support dairy farming in South Punjab, with a focus on streamlining the loan process for farmers in the region.
The Chief Minister envisions guiding livestock farmers towards economic independence, with plans to distribute 40,000 Punjab Livestock Cards across the province. This initiative is expected to facilitate the export of meat from 400,000 animals.
Moreover, the Punjab Livestock Card Scheme will offer various services, including free animal tagging, disease prevention services, and quality testing facilities for silage and fodder. Through the Punjab Livestock Farm, farmers can avail easy loans of Rs. 2.7 lakh for silage, fodder, and mineral mixtures, repayable within 30 days using the Punjab Livestock Card.
