The Embassy of Russia in Islamabad has announced that it is closely monitoring the unfolding developments in Pakistan, including the political landscape and court decisions.
In a recent social media post, the embassy stated, “However, we believe that it is up to the Pakistani people to react to and comment on these developments.”
While the post lacked specific context, some users speculated that it could be related to the legal proceedings involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan. A few expressed surprise at such a statement from the official social media account of the Russian embassy.
Notably, on Monday, Khan and his party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi received relief when the Islamabad High Court acquitted them in a case concerning the alleged leaking of state secrets, known as the cipher case. This case revolves around a diplomatic document, cipher, reportedly missing from Khan’s possession, with the PTI claiming it contained a threat from the United States regarding Khan’s stance on Russia. However, the US administration has denied these allegations.
