Samsung embarks on a mission to elevate everyday experiences by seamlessly integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into their devices through the innovative Galaxy AI platform.
This groundbreaking initiative seeks to enhance productivity, imbue significance, and infuse enjoyment into daily life routines.
Today marks a significant milestone as Samsung rolls out Galaxy AI to select smartphones and tablets, courtesy of the highly anticipated One UI 6.1 update.
Included in this update are Samsung’s flagship models from 2023, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.
This expansion extends the benefits of Galaxy AI to millions of users, making it accessible beyond the latest flagship, the Galaxy S24 series.
While the availability of this technology on older models would have been ideal, this move signifies a noteworthy achievement deserving of recognition.
According to Samsung VP Nick Porter, the ongoing rollout endeavors to introduce Galaxy AI features to a staggering 100 million devices worldwide as the update reaches a wide audience. These features encompass all functionalities introduced alongside the Galaxy S24 lineup in January, including live translation, text summaries, AI wallpapers, and more.
While certain features in One UI 6.1 remain exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series due to hardware limitations, all AI capabilities previously exclusive to Galaxy S24 owners are now accessible on Samsung’s 2023 flagship devices.
Key features of Galaxy AI encompass real-time text and call translations, intelligent text, note, and webpage summarization, voice recording transcription and summarization, messaging assistance, advanced photo editing functionalities, and simplified Google searches through intuitive gestures.
Moreover, Galaxy AI offers personalized wallpapers and the ability to effortlessly convert standard videos into captivating slow-motion footage.
For owners of Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, or Galaxy Tab S9, anticipate receiving the One UI 6.1 update notification soon.
During an interview with GSMAerna, Porter addressed inquiries regarding Samsung’s plans to extend Galaxy AI to older generation phones, given past speculations. While Porter refrained from confirming or denying the possibility, he clarified that Samsung is currently assessing which devices should receive Galaxy AI and whether they will receive the entire suite of features or a tailored selection based on compatibility with older hardware, on a case-by-case basis. As of now, no definitive decisions have been made by Samsung in this regard.
While availability may vary by region, users can expect to enjoy the complete suite of Galaxy AI features within the next two weeks.
