Agha Fakhar Hussain, the Director General of Sindh Food Authority (SFA), underscored the responsibility of all SFA operational teams in ensuring the fortification process in flour and salt during his visit to the Sunridge flour mill alongside a team from Nutrition International. Notably, Nutrition International has provided micro-nutrients to several flour mills and atta chakkis to monitor zinc and iron levels in the flour.
DG SFA Agha Fakhar Hussain directed operational deputy directors to rigorously check manufacturers’ documentation, conduct random sampling from various batches and locations, utilize iodine test kits, ensure regular visits to production sites, provide training and awareness sessions to staff, stay updated on the latest methods and technology in the field, maintain close contact with health authorities, and establish a feedback mechanism.
Emphasizing the importance of selling fortified flour, DG SFA warned of strict action against flour mill owners not complying with SFA Act regulations. He reiterated SFA’s commitment to ensuring fortified flour and salt for the improved health of the people in Sindh. Additionally, he called upon the media to play a role in raising awareness among the masses about the benefits of using fortified flour and salt for better health.
