Nadir Khaqan Abbasi, the son of former Prime Minister and senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has decided to enter the political arena by contesting the upcoming general elections. Sources reveal that Nadir Khaqan Abbasi will vie for the National Assembly (NA) seat in Murree as an independent candidate.
This decision comes despite earlier announcements by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that his son would not participate in the elections. The younger Abbasi seems determined to make his mark on the political landscape by standing for election in the constituency with historical significance for the Abbasi family.
In a recent media interaction in Islamabad, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi evaded questions about the possibility of forming a new political party or leaving the PML-N. When asked about his relationship with Nawaz Sharif, he mentioned that there had been no contact and no perceived need for it.
Addressing the general election schedule, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stated confidently that the elections would indeed take place on February 8. He emphasized the importance of a level playing field, asserting that the Constitution and the law define such conditions.
On the ongoing cases against him, particularly in NAB courts, Abbasi expressed frustration, questioning the accountability for the injustices being faced by individuals in the country. He hinted at potential separation from the PML-N soon, indicating a decision to be formally announced through a press conference in the coming days.
