
Eleven people lost their lives when an oil tanker collided with a passenger bus on the M9 motorway near Gadap city, officials announced. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Malir police, which confirmed that the bus was driving in the wrong direction at the time of collision.
Dr Summaiya Syed, a surgeon from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, stated to Dawn that nine victims had been brought to their facility while two others were transported to Civil Hospital, Karachi. Following the incident, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho instructed police to immediately reach the scene and oversee emergency efforts.
According to the IGP’s statement, instructions were issued for securing the accident site and surrounding areas due to potential oil spillage risks. He emphasized ensuring all necessary safety measures in coordination with relevant departments while diverting traffic to alternate routes to prevent congestion and facilitate timely access of ambulances and rescue personnel.
In a separate statement, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar echoed the government’s grief over the accident, directing authorities to ensure immediate and best possible medical treatment for the injured. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sorrow in a statement by his Secretariat, praying for the forgiveness of those who died and offering condolences to bereaved families.
Zardari also prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded and instructed the Sindh government to provide immediate and top-tier medical care to those affected by the accident.
