Repair work on an 84-inch diameter main water line along University Road is set to begin Monday and will continue for 72 hours, operating round the clock. The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has assured residents that water supply will likely be restored by Wednesday evening.
KW&SC CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed inspected the site and received a detailed briefing from the Chief Engineer of WTM about the planned repairs. During the visit, he instructed teams to work nonstop to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe.
Speaking to journalists, Ahmed highlighted that the repairs are being conducted on an emergency basis to restore water supply promptly. He also explained that delays occurred due to the need for long-term, sustainable solutions that ensure uninterrupted service and support ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the BRT system.
According to a KW&SC spokesperson, Siphon 19 on University Road consists of three 84-inch diameter pipes, with only one pipe undergoing repairs. Water supply will continue through the remaining two, but a partial suspension will affect areas including Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jamshed Town, and the Old City Area.
The spokesperson urged residents in these areas to store water and use it conservatively during the repair period to minimize inconvenience.
