Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif seeking his “personal intervention” for former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s medical examination. The TTAP shared this letter on X (formerly known as Twitter), emphasizing urgency over recent undisclosed health check-ups conducted at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
Achakzai stated that he is writing “with utmost urgency” to bring the matter of Mr Imran Khan’s health to Prime Minister Sharif’s immediate attention. He noted that medical checks were carried out without Imran’s personal doctors or family members being informed. The letter highlighted the necessity for a full medical examination by Imran’s trusted medical team, citing their expertise in his medical history.
The names of Imran’s trusted doctors—Dr Muhammad Aasim Yusuf, Dr Prof Mazhar Ishaq, and Dr Prof Aamir Awan—are listed in the letter. Achakzai called for immediate access to these medical professionals, underscoring that safeguarding Imran’s health is critical.
Days after media reports on Imran Khan’s treatment surfaced, government officials admitted that he was treated at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Tarar, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister, confirmed that Imran had undergone a “20-minute” medical procedure at PIMS on January 24 and was then taken back to Adiala Jail with instructions.
Following this incident, the PTI condemned the government’s actions, including “secretly transferring” Imran Khan to PIMS without informing his family or party leadership. The PTI also denied him access to his personal physicians during treatment.
