Alex Warren’s Grammy mishap remains mysterious, but the singer is moving forward with renewed determination. The Ordinary hitmaker was caught off guard during his performance at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 1, as part of a live medley that included fellow Best New Artist nominees Leon Thomas and Lola Young.
He appeared to struggle with his monitors, which he had rehearsed for weeks leading up to the ceremony. “It was horrifying,” Warren confessed. Despite this setback, he insisted, “I’ve never known exactly what happened.”
Reflecting on the incident, the 25-year-old singer said, “Everything cut out” from his in-ear monitors just before the live broadcast began. He recalled pleading with crew members for thirty seconds, but they only gave him twenty-five. “Guys, something’s wrong,” he urged, moments before stepping onto the stage.
Warren’s performance continued despite the technical glitch, a feat that left some of his peers impressed and others bewildered. The singer later addressed the incident on Instagram, sharing an unsettling video clip where distorted audio played through his earpiece during his set.
“The Grammys are supposed to be magical,” Warren opined in his post. “This was not supposed to happen.” He added a quip: “Only this would have happened to me.”
Beyond grappling with the technical issues, Warren has also been proactive about expanding his knowledge of other artists. The TikTok star recently told The Guardian he’s made an effort to acquaint himself with musicians and their work, something he hadn’t done previously.
“Everyone’s always asking me what music I know,” Alex said, “And I’m like, ‘I have no idea who these people are and I wish I did.’ So I’ve been really trying to put myself out there and listen to more music.”
Warren’s candidness about his own ignorance serves as a reminder that even established artists can learn from new talents. As he continues to navigate the complexities of live performances, Alex Warren is looking forward to future shows with renewed confidence.
