Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif Opens Up to Genetic Testing by IOC for Paris 2028 Olympics Participation

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has indicated her willingness to comply with genetic testing requirements as long as they are conducted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This stance came in response to a gender dispute that led to her disqualification from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which relied on sex chromosome tests.

Khelif won gold for Algeria in the women’s welterweight division at the Paris Games scheduled for 2024. However, after her exclusion from the championships, she appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She has expressed a preference for undergoing genetic testing only through the IOC, emphasizing her commitment to fairness and protection as a woman.

Khelif stated, “Of course, I would accept anything I am required to do to participate in competitions.” Despite facing challenges, she maintained that organizations should protect women without harming other individuals. “I’m not transgender; I’m a woman,” she added, “and I want to live my life. Please do not exploit me for your political agendas.”

Khelif is hopeful that the CAS will provide her with justice, asserting that she stands by her belief in her rightful place in competitive boxing.
