Ariana Grande Sees Need for Career Break After Decade-Long Commitment

Ariana Grande has expressed a desire to step back from her career in order to regain balance after more than a decade of near-constant professional commitments across music and film. In an interview with Vogue Japan, the 32-year-old singer reflected on her demanding pace since breaking into stardom as a teenager. “I think it would probably be healthy,” she said. “I’m not used to taking breaks. But I do know that I grew so much from taking space from music while filming Wicked.” Grande highlighted how these past few years have been marked by non-stop work, noting that the last decade has featured 15 years of activity.

For her future, Grande aims for a more balanced approach over the next 15 years. She explained, “Balance is the goal for the next 15 years. I don’t think they will look like the previous 15 years.” This change in rhythm includes her portrayal as Glinda in the two-part Wicked film adaptation. Grande detailed how she immersed herself deeply into the character’s emotional background, exploring her insecurities, relationships, and unspoken moments to craft a performance that was simultaneously polished and vulnerable.

In discussing the production of the film, Grande spoke warmly about forming a close bond with co-star Cynthia Erivo during the process. “We have very different processes, and we’re very different as people,” she said. “Yet we took the time to learn each other, take care of each other through this process… I think it was really meant to be.” Grande emphasized the positive impact of their collaborative effort, stating that they cared for one another throughout the film’s production and working hard in doing so. She concluded by saying, “It was the most gratifying work of my life. I would do it all over again today.”
