Artist Aroosa Rana’s ‘The Golden Ratio – Math of Beauty’ opens at Canvas Art Gallery
On March 24, artist Aroosa Rana unveiled her exhibition “The Golden Ratio – Math of Beauty” at the Canvas Art Gallery in Karachi. The show explores how the golden ratio symbolizes harmony and devastation through imagery of Gaza.
Rana’s work overlays the golden ratio onto images of Gaza, questioning how a symbol of classical harmony can be used to frame devastation. She comments on how imposing order and artistic structure upon ruins allows her to question the ways beauty can aestheticize violence.
The artist employs the golden ratio in works like “The Golden Triangle” and “The Golden Divide,” visualizing war zone tragedies and loss of innocence among those caught in conflict. Rana, an acclaimed interdisciplinary artist and educator, has exhibited at national and international venues, including the Dhaka Art Summit in 2014 and Extra Ordinary in Karachi in 2013. Her current exhibition runs until April 2, 2026.
