Federal Minister of Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, addressed the National Assembly on Wednesday. He stated that it’s not possible to abolish refugee seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly, as doing so would harm the Kashmir cause.
Tarar also said subsidized electricity and flour are provided in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), which he claimed is inseparable from Kashmir. He further alleged foreign actors were involved in attempts to undermine the Kashmir cause.
The Law Minister noted that the Supreme Court of AJK had already ruled on the matter, stating that amending the Constitution is Parliament’s prerogative. The newly elected Parliament will decide this issue, he added.
Tarar also mentioned an All Parties Conference (APC) convened and criticized opposition leaders for their unwillingness to sit down with the Prime Minister. He emphasized that decisions under Article 164 were made through mutual consultation with provinces and that these were voluntary contributions belonging to Pakistan’s people, not a separate country.
