Bangladesh: Army Chief Announces Interim Government as Sheikh Hasina Resigns

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has declared that an interim government, involving all political parties, will soon be established following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Army Chief stated that from now on, all decisions will be under the army’s jurisdiction.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman revealed that discussions with political parties have led to this decision, and the army will now engage with President Mohammed Shahabuddin to address the situation. He urged an end to violence and promised that the interim government will ensure justice for those killed during the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement.

With over 300 deaths reported in recent protests against Hasina’s administration, Hasina has resigned and left the country. Reports from Jamuna television indicate that the resignation came under immense pressure from the ongoing protests. The Army Chief also appealed for peace and order across the country.
