In Bannu, police thwarted a major terror plot with swift action, successfully defusing multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to prevent potential catastrophic damage.
The operation began when early morning intelligence led teams from various law enforcement units into the high-risk areas. Acting on this information, squads coordinated by SDPOs and DSP CTD Bannu were dispatched under the supervision of DPO Bannu. Alongside district police, Rapid Response Force (RRF), CTD Swat teams, and a specialized Bomb Disposal Squad, these units executed a covert operation.
As they moved in on the suspect sites, drones conducted surveillance from a safe distance, monitoring for any signs of remote detonation attempts. Suddenly, three suspects attempting to activate the devices opened fire on police during drone surveillance, initiating a brief but intense firefight. However, they managed to escape into nearby bushes before they could cause further harm.
The Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the scene quickly and defused the explosive devices without incident. The three IEDs, weighing over 140 kilograms in total, were neutralized in Baka Khel, while a smaller device of around eight kilograms was handled with precision in Kaki, another area targeted by the suspected terror group.
Their actions prevented significant damage to infrastructure and saved numerous lives. Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed commended the operation’s swift response and praised the efficiency of the Bannu police team, offering a reward for their bravery and skill.
DIG Bannu Region also hailed this intelligence-based mission as an example of Pakistan’s law enforcement capabilities. The successful defusal not only showcased the effectiveness of our security forces but also reinforced public safety in the region.
