The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a high-level convoy of Chinese engineers and investors in Karachi, according to a statement issued by the group’s spokesperson, Jayand Baloch. The attack, which targeted the convoy as it left Jinnah Airport last night, was carried out by the BLA’s elite Fidai unit, Majeed Brigade.

The spokesperson stated that five Chinese engineers and investors were killed in the attack, with additional casualties and injuries reported. More than 12 individuals, including Chinese nationals, were wounded.

The country’s foreign ministry said it is “in close contact” with Chinese authorities and will “bring to justice those responsible for this cowardly attack”.

“This act of terrorism is an attack not only on Pakistan, but also on the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China,” the ministry said.

“This barbaric act will not go unpunished,” it added.

The Chinese embassy said that the engineers were part of the Chinese-funded enterprise Port Qasim Power Generation Co Ltd, which aims to build two coal power plants at Port Qasim, near Karachi.

The explosion destroyed 15 vehicles in the convoy, but the BLA claimed that its tactical precision spared civilian casualties despite the attack occurring in a densely populated area.

The attack was carried out using a “vehicle-borne improvised explosive device”,

The attacker was identified as Fidai Sangat Fidai Shah Fahad, also known as Aftab, from the BLA’s Majeed Brigade.

Additionally, the BLA has officially announced the creation of its intelligence wing, the Zephyr Intelligence Research & Analysis Bureau (ZIRAB). According to the statement, ZIRAB comprises a coordinated team of professionals, researchers, IT experts, and informers. The intelligence unit, with secret cells established across Balochistan’s cities, has infiltrated enemy establishments, enabling operations like the one in Karachi.
