Body of woman who fell into open manhole in Lahore recovered

DIG Operations Lahore confirmed today that the dead body of a woman who fell into an open manhole near Data Darbar in Lahore has been recovered. The nine-month-old child remains missing, and rescue operations are ongoing to locate her.

The DIG stated that a woman’s body was retrieved from the sewerage line at Outfall Road after five hours following reports of the incident. Rescue officials reported finding the child still unaccounted for despite intensified search efforts.

Faisal Kamran, DIG Operations Lahore, spoke with the media about the incident where a mother and her daughter fell into a manhole near Data Darbar. He confirmed that police received an emergency call on 1122 after which they carried out thorough investigations.

The woman’s husband reported to officials that he left for prayer at Data Darbar when the accident occurred, prompting rescue operations. Safe City authorities retrieved CCTV footage confirming his account, showing no evidence of negligence or mishandling in the matter.

Rescue sources initially believed it was impossible for a human to drown in the sewage hole where it was claimed two people fell. The location identified was Bird Market near Data Darbar, under construction by the administration.

Specialized rescue teams and divers responded quickly upon receiving reports from the public. The Lahore administration later confirmed no accident occurred at the sewer line site.

The woman’s father accused her husband of murdering his daughter following a police statement. Three individuals, including the woman’s husband, were arrested but then released on bail by investigators.
