In a significant development for Saturday Night Live (SNL), Bowen Yang has opened up about his experience as an avid viewer following the show’s conclusion in December. Speaking to People, Bowen described how his first Saturdays post-SNL felt markedly different.

“I was watching SNL from Japan,” Bowen recalled with a smile. “I got lots of messages from old colleagues, checking if everything was still running smoothly and asking about our mutual absence.”

The comedian admitted that the feeling of being both participant and spectator was initially disorienting but quickly grew to be enjoyable. “It feels very strange after spending years on the show, yet it’s a bit odd in a fun way,” he explained.

Bowen elaborated on how his new role as a viewer has been refreshing. “The process is now clear from start to finish without any emotional baggage hanging over me. The past three shows have been excellent viewing.”

He went on to mention which SNL alumni performances he missed during this period, describing them with great anticipation: “I’m getting excited about potential sketches with Teyana Taylor or Alexander Skarsgård.”

Adding a touch of camaraderie, Bowen reflected, “My friends can’t wait for me to see Connor Storrie perform again. I’m no longer the plug-in guy.”

Bowen’s perspective offers insight into how his career shift has brought a new appreciation for the show’s weekly antics and its impact on the cast and audience alike.
