In a major development for Pakistan’s aviation sector, Karachi’s business community has announced the launch of a new airline, “Air Karachi.”

The airline, which has been officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), is poised to make a significant entry into the competitive domestic market.

Muhammad Hanif Gohar, former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and former Chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), confirmed the announcement. Gohar revealed that the company has submitted a formal request to the federal government for the necessary operating license, a key step in moving the project forward. The airline will begin its operations with three leased aircraft, with plans to expand further as the business develops.

Gohar also emphasized the scale of the investment behind the initiative, revealing that the project is backed by a capital infusion of Rs 5 million, with individual shareholders each contributing Rs 50 million. “This initiative is a testament to Karachi’s growing role as a hub of business and innovation in Pakistan,” Gohar stated in a press briefing. “We are confident that Air Karachi will introduce a new standard of service and competition in the domestic aviation sector.”

The launch of Air Karachi marks a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s aviation industry, which has traditionally been dominated by state-owned carriers. With the new airline’s entry, experts predict a shift toward increased competition and improved service offerings for passengers.

The business community of Karachi views this project as an important step toward economic growth and diversification, especially in the wake of growing demand for air travel across the region. The next few months will be crucial for Air Karachi as it awaits government approval for its operating license and prepares to set up its infrastructure.

The success of this venture could potentially reshape the future of air travel in Pakistan, positioning Karachi not only as an economic powerhouse but also as a key player in the country’s evolving aviation market.

As of now, the airline’s leadership remains optimistic, confident in its business model, and eager to meet the growing demand for both domestic and international travel from Pakistan’s largest city.
