Erik Per Sullivan, known for playing Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle, has been replaced by Caleb Ellsworth in the sitcom’s reboot. The show’s fans are closely watching Ellsworth to ensure he can deliver a similar performance.

Ellsworth expressed his feelings about the pressure of replacing a beloved character. He said, “I grew up watching the show and knew Dewey was both popular and personal to me.”

Despite concerns over potential disappointment from longtime fans, Ellsworth received warm support from his co-stars. “They made me feel like I belonged,” he recalled.

The reboot’s logline reads: ‘Malcolm lives in the suburbs with his parents and three brothers. After being identified as having a very high IQ, he’s placed in a ‘gifted’ class at school.’

“From there, Malcolm narrates the increasingly chaotic, offbeat events of his life as he navigates school drama, crushes, and, above all, his big, oddball family.”

The series is now streaming on Disney+.
