China’s railway network transported 24.8 million passengers on May 1, setting a new single-day record as per data from the China State Railway Group.

The national railway system is expected to transport 19.7 million passengers on May 2, according to an official Xinhua news agency report.

To manage holiday passenger traffic, some lines added additional trains; the Zhengzhou line added 140 and the Chengdu line added 184, as reported by Xinhua.

The tourism market in China is a significant driver of domestic demand, providing momentum for the national economy amid challenges from weak consumption and a prolonged property downturn.
