Bomb Blast Kills Five, Wounds Sixteen at Damascus Cafe
On Thursday, a bomb blast occurred at a crowded cafe in central Damascus, leaving at least five dead and 16 wounded, according to Syrian state media. The explosion took place near the Palace of Justice in the heart of Syria’s capital city.
State news agency SANA reported these figures, citing the head of Syria’s emergency health services as the source. No immediate details about the attack were provided, nor was there an immediate claim of responsibility.
Damascus has experienced sporadic attacks since the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024. His removal by Ahmed al-Sharaa and his rebel forces effectively ended a 14-year civil war. On May 19, another car bomb killed one Syrian soldier and injured at least 18 others outside a defense ministry building in Damascus.
