Dame Jools Topp, a cherished New Zealand singer, has died at the age of 68 after enduring a long fight against breast cancer.
The renowned performer—half of the celebrated comedy and country music duo, the Topp Twins, along with her sister Lynda—passed away in her residence on Saturday, May 23.
Her family disclosed via social media. “With profound sorrow and incomprehensible grief, we announce Jools’ passing,” they stated. “She was a true warrior woman… We will miss her forever.”
Fans expressed their heartache over her sudden demise online. NZ singer Neil Finn described her as a “wonderful, warm, sharp, and funny member of our arts community.” Celebrity chef Peter Gordon mourned, calling her one half of the Topp Twins responsible for much of his laughter.
Dame was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006.
