
Saxophonist Dick Parry, who played with Pink Floyd on some of his biggest hit songs, passed away at the age of 83.
On Friday, May 22, David Gilmour, a guitarist for Pink Floyd, announced Parry’s death on X (formerly Twitter), writing “My dear friend Dick Parry died this morning.”
Gilmour shared that he had played with Parry since he was seventeen, including in bands such as Pink Floyd. He described Parry’s saxophone playing as having an unmistakable feel and tone, a signature of enormous beauty known to millions and integral to songs like ‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ ‘Us and Them,’ and ‘Money.’
Gilmour also played with Parry in the last band he had that included Rick Wright for the On an Island Tour and at Live 8 with Pink Floyd. However, Gilmour did not disclose what caused Parry’s death.
Notably, English musician Dick Parry was 80 years old when he passed away.
