JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon discussed potential expansion into prediction market services during an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil.
The bank is considering offering services similar to Kalshi and Polymarket, which enable customers to place bets on a range of outcomes from sporting events to elections. However, Dimon emphasized that the company would not engage in sports or politics betting due to strict rules around insider information.
When asked if prediction markets are more akin to gambling or investing, Dimon stated they are primarily about gambling but could also be considered as investing when individuals take a position on a bet based on their deep knowledge and belief that they know better than others.
Dimon expressed no general opposition to gambling, noting its prevalence across various cultures. However, he added that he opposes it if it leads to addiction or negatively impacts one’s life. He supports the principle of personal freedom as long as individuals are responsible for themselves.
