Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of undermining efforts to halt the Middle East war, stating Ankara would continue pursuing opportunities for a ceasefire. Following a cabinet meeting in Turkey’s capital, Erdogan said, “The Israeli government has continued to undermine all initiatives aimed at ending the war.” He also emphasized that if there is any chance to silence weapons and open space for negotiations, Turkey will make sincere efforts.
Erdogan expressed hope that the costly war would end as soon as possible. The president warned of a potential spread of conflict to other countries, noting it’s been 38 days since the conflict began. He stated that diplomatic contacts are being accelerated in the face of increasing risks.
Turkey has attempted to mediate an end to hostilities through negotiations with Pakistan and Egypt. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with US Ambassador Tom Barrack, who described the meeting as productive. Fidan also spoke with his Iranian counterpart about the war’s course and other developments.
