Former Chief of Army Staff General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa was hospitalised after sustaining a severe head injury from a fall at home. The incident has sent shockwaves through the military community in Pakistan.

Bajwa’s brother-in-law, Naeem Ghumman, announced the news on social media, posting a video revealing details of his condition. “General Qamar Javed Bajwa received a serious blow to the head and is currently undergoing critical tests at Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi,” Ghumman stated in an urgent update.

Ghumman elaborated that the General had been barefoot when he slipped, resulting in the fall. He was moved to the hospital immediately after his accident. The brother-in-law added, “General Bajwa is now out of danger and no suspicious findings have emerged during the medical examinations.”

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident, confirming that General Qamar Javed Bajwa, recipient of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan’s Military Pride Award), had sustained injuries in his own home.

Bajwa, who served as Chief of Army Staff from November 2016 to November 2022 under Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, is now officially retired. His tenure spanned over six years—well beyond the initial term initially granted by Prime Minister Sharif, which was subsequently extended by his successor.

Bajwa’s fall at home has underscored a notable health issue for one of Pakistan’s most prominent military figures. The incident highlights an unexpected vulnerability even in someone as seasoned and experienced as Bajwa, who had held one of the highest positions within the armed forces for nearly seven years.

The ISPR confirmed his hospitalisation but did not provide further details on when he was last seen active. Given the gravity of the injury, this marks a significant health setback for General Qamar Javed Bajwa in what has been an illustrious military career marked by numerous achievements and recognitions.
