FBR Establishes Joint Working Group to Address Non-Filers’ Account Closure

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set up an 18-member Joint Working Group to tackle the issue of closing non-filers’ accounts.

Comprising representatives from FBR, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and major mobile phone companies including Jazz, Ufone, and Telenor, the Joint Working Group is tasked with addressing the closure of non-filers’ accounts.

According to FBR, the group will scrutinize the process of blocking non-filers’ accounts and ensure the implementation of the Income Tax General Order, with the aim of removing obstacles hindering the closure of such accounts.

The notification regarding the establishment of the Joint Working Group has been issued by FBR.

In a related development, the Islamabad High Court has requested a response from the government by May 22 regarding a petition filed against the government’s move to block mobile phone SIMs of non-filers.
