Federal Cabinet Approves Major Hike in Electricity Tariff

The federal cabinet has approved a substantial increase in the electricity tariff for residential consumers using between 100 and 500 units per month.

According to the details obtained by Headline PK, the new base tariff is set at Rs 48.84 per unit, which will rise to Rs 57.63 per unit after adding sales tax. With additional adjustments and taxes, the maximum tariff will surpass Rs 65 per unit.

The revised rates are as follows:

  • Consumers using 1 to 100 units will pay Rs 23.59 per unit.
  • For those using 101 to 200 units, the tariff will be Rs 30.07 per unit.
  • Consumers using 201 to 300 units will see an increase to Rs 34.26 per unit.
  • Those using 301 to 400 units will be charged Rs 39.15 per unit.
  • The highest tariff applies to consumers using 401 to 500 units, who will now pay Rs 41.36 per unit.

This decision by the federal cabinet reflects the government’s attempt to adjust tariffs in line with economic demands and revenue needs, adding further burden on the public.
