The federal government is preparing to introduce the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance 2024, aiming to promote greater transparency in the judicial process. According to sources, the ordinance will be presented to the federal cabinet for approval.

The key proposal is the creation of a transcript for every judicial action, making court proceedings more accessible to the public. This effort is part of ongoing reforms under the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023, which focuses on ensuring cases are heard based on merit.

Led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), a committee has been working to enhance judicial efficiency, though it has faced delays due to the unavailability of some members. The proposed amendment would empower the CJP to appoint another judge in a member’s absence, ensuring smoother scheduling of cases.

These changes aim to improve both transparency and the overall functioning of thejudiciary.
