The Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir, paid a significant visit to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), where he held an important meeting with SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed. The discussions primarily focused on the rising issues surrounding cryptocurrency and illegal money transfers.
The meeting addressed various crucial topics, with the primary aim of developing a joint strategy to combat financial crimes and create regulations for cryptocurrency transactions.
The FIA Director General expressed concerns over the rapid increase in cryptocurrency transactions and stressed the need for clear policies to deem cryptocurrency trading illegal.
Jahangir highlighted that access to key information from the SBP could aid in curbing unlawful money value transfers. The proposal for appointing a focal person from the SBP was also considered, which would facilitate prompt action against currency exchange companies involved in illegal activities.
